WHAT IS THE WGA?

“Writers Guild of America” (East & West)

“It is recommended that you register with both East & West Guilds”

The WGA East & West is the home to thousands of Hollywood’s & New York’s leading TV and movie screen writers however, you do not need to be a WGA member to use this vital Guild service.’

The Writers Guild of America is a labor union representing thousands of members who write content for television, motion pictures, digital media & news. The Guild helps administer & negotiate member contracts that protect their creative and economic rights. They conduct seminars & programs with events on issues that are of interest to writers, and presents a writer’s point of view to varying bodies of government.

Registering means your authorship on a given date documents your proprietary originality. Registering your works prior to submitting it to agents, managers, producers, or contests will protect your original creative works should there be unauthorized usage.

The WGA may produce the material which proves you are the original author if any legal action is initiated. It is much faster than a copyright lawsuit and helps prevent those lawsuits.
